Li’s captivity ended the day she embraced the hope that she could escape to freedom with help from missions workers.
Freedom from exploitation…
Li never imagined what a nightmare her life would soon become when she followed her friends and ran away to the city. Within days she was in the hands of thugs that threatened her with prison and public shame if she disobeyed them.
Just 14 years old and 85 pounds small, she was used by railroad construction workers in a bamboo hut until the day when a Project Justice staff member quietly entered and asked if she wanted to go home. He brought with him a cellphone video from her family telling her not to be afraid, but to trust this person and leave now. It took a few hours to ignite, but finally, her courage blazed up and she walked to his motorcycle with him. Together they sped away toward freedom and a reunion with her family. Today Li is in college, grateful to get a second chance at live. Her chance is possible because sacrificial donors funded her rescue, rehabilitation, and education.
